    Illinois Tollway Eola Road Project

    Chicago, IL

    • Description

The Illinois Tollway Authority weighed the options of installing either a trench drain system or a standard slotted pipe design. After meeting with several people, including ACO, the Illinois Tollway Authority decided to use a trench drain system.

ACO’s Highway Drain, HD200 trench drain system was selected because the monolithic design offered safety and functionality at the same time while being surface accessible which allowed for easier maintenance.

Additionally, the trench drain system will withstand constant movement over the grates as well as braking and heavy traffic.

    Formula 1 Race Track

    Austin, TX

    • Description

Formula One has been the premier global motor racing championship since 1950. During that time many F1 races have been held in the USA, from a street circuit in Long Beach, California to a race around the car park of Caesars Palace Casino in Las Vegas to a road circuit in upstate New York. The last F1 race in the USA was held in 2007 at the Indianapolis Speedway in Indiana. In 2010 it was announced that a new circuit would be built in Austin, Texas and would be the home of US F1 races from 2012 to 2022. Purpose built circuits to host Formula One races have been designed by the German architect Hermann Tilke for the last 15 years. Many of these new circuits include a lot of trench drainage, and the track in Austin would be no exception. ACO Infrastructure Qmax 225 complete with ductile iron intake slot was chosen for the track areas. The inaugral race was held November 18th, 2012 and all trench drains held up well to the intense forces inflicted by F1 race cars.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) decided to provide a bypass on state Route 23 in Chillicothe Ohio to help alleviate the summer congestion caused by tourist traffic heading to the nearby state parks and camp grounds. A bypass was constructed around the town offering two lanes in each direction with less traffic lights to impede traffic flow. The road was constructed in a flat area and to assist with the minimal grading an ACO Infrastructure TraffikDrain TD100 was selected to run down the median. The excellent load performance of TraffikDrain, plus 60% grate intake, provided a solution where both withstand a variety of vehicle types running over the drain plus excellent hydraulics to evacuate the standing water.
TraffikDrain TD100 is unique in the market as the only continuously sloped modular trench drain manufactured in one piece offering 200 ft of continuously sloped trench.

    Cheyenne, WY - August 2013

    • Description

During the refurbishment of this busy truck stop on Interstate 80 near Cheyenne, Wyoming, a heavy duty drainage system was needed to keep the large areas of hardstanding free of stormwater and snow melt.

The drainage system also needed to contain any fuel spills or contaminated run-off from nearby refueling facilities.

HighwayDrain was selected as it is totally manufactured from polymer

concrete, a material with excellent corrosion resistance to hydrocarbons and other common automotive and road deicing fluids.

The integral grate and trench drain is load tested to DIN 19850 Class E, over 135,000 lbs. and offers excellent ability to withstand to frequent braking and turning of extreme traffic.

The retrofit drain operation was planned in order to ensure that water buildup would be effectively captured and removed away from the facility, and that the final drain system would be durable and long lasting under the

continual daily heavy traffic of tractor trailers crossing the drain channels.

Expansion plans also required the construction of additional loading docks.

Originally a cast-in-place system was specifi ed but after reviewing ACO HighwayDrain HD200 and the time and cost savings that could be achieved, the contractor decided to switch. La Quinta Golf Estates

La Quinta, CA - August 2013

    • Description

Standing water on the residential streets at La Quinta Golf Estates was causing problems for the Home Owner’s Association. The ponding, stagnant water was not only unsightly but was causing slippery road conditions. To resolve these concerns, the engineer decided to install a trench drain system to remove the water.

ACO’s Cross Curb Drain proved to be an economical solution and with moving parts maintenance would be simpler; removable grates were installed every 100’ to provide access to periodically clean out the drains.

Additionally, the Cross Curb Drain is load rated to Class C (1,162 psi) and can withstand cars and small trucks driving through the residential area.

    Stackpole Road

    Somersworth, NH - July 2012

    • Description

Stackpole Road is a major intersection in Somersworth, New Hampshire and is prone to ponding water after heavy rainfall and snow melt. The ponding water was causing hazardous road conditions for the drivers in the area. To alleviate the problem, ACO’s monolithic HighwayDrain HD200 was retrofitted because it provides a safe, one piece unit with no removable parts that can be lost or stolen or create a hazard to moving vehicles. In addition, the simple installation required no bracing and no grates to install which made the trench drain system both cost effective and very quick to instal, minimizing road downtime. The polymer concrete monolithic channel has minimal water absorption properties preventing freeze-thaw breakdown.

    One Wachovia Center

    Charlotte, NC

    • Description

One Wachovia Center is located in the heart of downtown Charlotte and is the headquarters for Wells Fargo subsidiary, Wachovia Bank. The plaza has been completely renovated and a trench drain system was required that could remove rainwater from the pedestrian area and fit into an existing shallow recess.

ACO’s H80KS SlabDrain with stainless steel grates was selected because its shallow invert fitted into the existing elevated slab. The trench drain with stainless steel edge railing and ADA stainless steel grates provided superior aesthetics and added to the overall look of the plaza.
